Test Data Management
In many organisations, raw production data is still used for testing. This may provide an initial perceived benefit over the alternatives. However, issues with data quality, legal issues from leakage of sensitive data, and cost issues due to the use of unnecessary data render this option untenable in the long run. Test data management should therefore be one of the core activities of a successful testing operation.
The mission of Test Data Management consists of managing the provisioning of required test data in the most economic way possible, while at the same time ensuring compliance to international standards (e.g. accountability standards), national legal frameworks (e.g. national data protection legislation) and regulations specific to the organisation or project.Test Data Management delivers to these objectives by systematically deriving test data needs from overall test needs, choosing between synthetic and anonymised production data, and ensuring the necessary quality of test data sets.
The SQS approach makes test data provisioning a manageable and controllable process; projects are supported in an efficient and flexible way.
The customer’s benefits at a glance:
- Reduction of cost, time and complexity of test data provisioning, making the whole testing process more efficient and flexible
- More efficient testing translates into increased software quality and greater ability to plan tests
- Compliance to legal requirements, standards or in-house agreements
- Systematic, reproducible, manageable and controllable test data provisioning
