Always at the cutting edge

In an area which evolves as quickly as IT, it is crucial not to stay behind or miss new developments. This applies to IT service providers just as well as to their clients. SQS has established its own Research & Development unit (R&D) to advance relevant topics and to ensure that each consultant fully benefits from our internal worldwide network of quality experts. This approach also contributes to ensuring that our service portfolio matches exactly the needs of our clients.
The Research & Development unit covers all aspects of Software Quality Management to strengthen the SQS service capabilities. This enables us to support our customers in all activities around Quality Management and Quality Assurance and ensures that we use the most effective and efficient techniques for each of our services. R&D clusters SQS expertise in three different areas:
  • Expertise about the Quality Management/Quality Assurance service itself: An example for a typical service is Test Automation which could be combined with other services, e.g. Test Management.
  • Expertise about the business sector: Most Quality Management and Quality Assurance activities require detailed knowledge about the domain in which the service is applied. For example testing in the avionic domain is different from testing in the logistics or banking domain. This is due to specific legal or regulatory constraints, different levels of safety requirements, etc.
  • Expertise about the technology used within the system affected by the project: Specific technologies allow and ask for specific Quality Management and Quality Assurance methods. For example functional testing in the context of SOA systems looks somewhat different from testing a classical client-server application.

R&D is responsible for managing specific topics within all of these three areas. To improve intra-company networking and communication and to assure consistent delivery of SQS Best Practices on a high-quality level, the unit is furthermore maintaining a virtual organisation, the so-called Innovation Groups. These are topic-related communities, run by SQS consultants committed to the corresponding topic.
